One UN Program - Signed the Annual Work Plan in a total of 18.1 million dollars
United Nations, January 14, 2011 – More than eighteen million dollars is the total amount of the Annual Work Plan for the year 2011, signed between the Government of Cape Verde and the United Nations.
This amount, which has increased annually, will contribute essentially to assist the country in achieving its development objectives, based on the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper.
On the occasion, the Resident Coordinator of UN System in Cape Verde, Petra Lantz, reaffirmed the Organization's commitment to continuing its cooperation with the country in all areas identified as priorities and integrating the One Program, that is based on four fundamental axes, such as Good Governance, Promotion of Growth and Economic Opportunities, Environment, Energy, Disaster Prevention and Response and Human Capital Development and Social Protection, currently forming ten subprograms.
Note that the same day proceeded with the signing of subprogram ten, Support to Food Security and Nutrition School, totaling more than five million dollars for a period of four years, financed through the United Nations by the Government of Luxembourg. This subprogram, which includes the participation of four UN agencies(FAO, WFP, WHO and UNICEF), aims to help sustain the School Canteens Programme in achieving its objectives, particularly for the consolidation of the Millennium Development Goals, ensuring good results in terms of children education, improve the quality of education, and the food and nutrition security of the children in school age, to besides promoting the diversification of school meals with local produce and school gardens, as well as generate economic opportunities for domestic producers (women and men).
