United Nations Cape Verde expresses their condolences and sympathies after the attack on UN headquarters in Nigeria

Praia, United Nations, 26th August 2011 – The UN Resident Coordinator a. i. in Cape Verde, Frans Van de Ven, on behalf of all the UN staff in Cape Verde, condemned this morning's attack on the United Nations compound in Abuja city, in which a number of people have been killed and wounded.

Likewise, all UN staff in Cape Verde want to express their deep sorrow because of the sad events and join their UN colleagues in manifesting their support for the victims and their families.

According to the information received, the compound in Abuja, a series of buildings that house the offices of 26 UN humanitarian and development agencies, was struck by a car bomb at around 11 a.m. local time.
