The One Program of the United Nations in Cape Verde
The "One Programme" aims to improve coherence, synergy and complementarity within the Agencies, Commissions, Funds and Programmes of the United Nations in Cape Verde, and help to better positioning the Government aid in facing the emerging challenges, as identified by the Government during the Forum that brought together the Government, the UN System and Civil Society, held in Praia on 22 October 2007, and entered in GPRSP II.
In response to these challenges, related to (i) to achieve the international development targets, including the MDGs, (ii) the management of post-graduate country fro LDC's, and (iii) the post-accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), strategic priorities have been defined jointly by residents and non residents agencies of the United Nations (UNCT) and national partners. They are namely (1) the successful integration with the international economy, (2) security (3) the consolidation of democracy, (4) promoting growth and economic opportunities (5) the environment, energy and prevention disasters, (6) the quality of the education system, (7) youth participation, (8) the contribution to health sector reform and (9) child protection and welfare.
The aim of the One Programme is to maximize and effectively use the combined contributions of participating agencies to better accompanying Cape Verde in its national policies to accelerate economic growth, promote competitiveness and the creation of productive jobs and fight poverty.
The One Programme is thus intended to support the Government in achieving national priorities, proposed during the Forum that brought together the Government, the UN System and Civil Society - held in Praia on 22 October 2007. They are:
(I) the attainment of international development targets, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs);
(II) the successful management of post-graduate and
(III) assistance in the post-accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The One Programme also release a special attention to crosscutting issues: capacity building, combating HIV / AIDS, gender, communication for development and human rights. Gender is taken into account systematically in the One Programme, to ensure their effective integration into all projects and programs, in Plea, in communication and tracking / evaluation.
